Due to the fact that sport and recreation activities are predominantly practised in urban areas and are largely Euro-centric, the revival of indigenous games is essential in order to get more South Africans, more active, for most of the time. The Legends Carpet: Explained
The colours showcased in the Legends carpet are indicative / representative of the various sporting codes in South Africa. Red represents track and field. Aqua represents all water sports. Gold represents all the indigenous/township games and all off road challenges. Green represents all sporting codes played on grass (both natural/artificial) like soccer, hockey, rugby, tennis etc. Black & White represents the tar for all road sports – road running & cycling.
The colours represented in the Legends Carpets are designed in curved lines, relative to the SA Sports Awards Logo. A lot of thought and care was taken in conceptualising and designing the Legends Carpet. The Similarities to the SA National Flag The South African National Flag colours are solid colours which SA Sports Awards has immense respect for. The SA National Flag is a symbol of unity. It is true coincidence that the colours represented on the carpet are similar to the colours represented on the SA Flag. The National Flag must at all times be treated with dignity and respect. The Flag must not: touch the floor or the ground; be used as a tablecloth or be draped in front of a platform; be used to cover a statue, plaque, cornerstone etc. It cannot be used at unveiling or similar ceremonies; or be used to start or finish any competition, race or similar event. As a result of the similarities to the flag, SA Sports Awards took great care in doing it’s homework in ensuring that no law is infringed upon. With that said continue to vote for your Sports Star of the Year. |
